Roulette vs. Craps; Spinning or Shaking?
From time on, there have been two casino table games that have been directly competing with each other. Why? They have been competing with each other because both games are based on chance and a good betting hand. Another factor is also that both are table games that can only be played with a multitude of people and the prestige and class that surrounds both casino table games is being shared by both. Which two games are being talked about here? Roulette and Craps, the two games that draw the ultimate in-crowd to play and win. Let us see who will emerge as the ultimate casino table game; the spinner or the shaker.
The history of both Roulette and Crap has one common denominator; they both had French men that brought the game into other countries. Nevertheless Crap has proven itself to be way older than Roulette. Crap originated in the 14th century in England and was played in another form then known as Hazard. Roulette was created sometime in the 17th century and many have been speculating as to its real creator, but many say that it has been created by mathematician Blaise Pascal. With this information at hand we have to say that Craps has won this round over Roulette because of its older historical background.
Next in line is the way both games are played. Roulette is played with a ball that spins in a Roulette wheel. Numbers in this Roulette wheel range from 0-36 and the wagers are placed in accordance to where the ball is believed to land. Craps on the other hand is a simple dice game and can be played virtually everywhere where you have two dice at hand. Whenever you roll the number seven with your Craps dice, you win the round. In this round, Roulette proves to be far more prestigious and sophisticated than Craps and is the winner of this round.
In the last round we will examine the prestige and class of each game according to the names of the wagers. In Roulette you can have bets that are called inside or outside bets. The names for other bets are Straight, Sixline, Column etc. Craps on the other hand has many terms for the different bets. The terms are both appropriate but sometimes even ridiculous for example; the term for betting on a two is called snake eyes, or the terms for a twelve is called boxcars. In this round, the classy terms of Roulette are clearly dominating.
The verdict is simple when it comes to Roulette vs. Craps. Craps is indeed a simple and old game, yet it seems very common and mediocre compared to Roulette. Roulette outshines Craps because of its sophisticated game play and its reputation for class.
